This is the Most Emotional Moment in Thailand Volleyball History !!! Thailand produced one of the biggest victories of the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship by defeating Japan 3–1 in the semifinals and advancing to the gold medal match.

The highly anticipated match was played on August 29, 2026, at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium in Tianjin, China. Thailand defeated Japan in four sets with scores of 25–21, 25–20, 20–25 and 25–20.

Japan entered the semifinal as the highest-ranked Asian team in the FIVB World Ranking. They had won Pool C without dropping a single set before comfortably defeating Chinese Taipei 3–0 in the quarterfinals. Thailand also entered the match in excellent form after sweeping South Korea 3–0 in its quarterfinal.

Thailand immediately showed that it was not intimidated by Japan’s ranking or unbeaten record. The defending Asian champions played with impressive discipline, patience and defensive organization, winning the opening set 25–21. Thailand continued applying pressure in the second set and took it 25–20 to establish a commanding 2–0 lead.

Japan refused to surrender and responded strongly in the third set. Led by captain Mayu Ishikawa, Japan increased its attacking pressure and improved at the net. The Japanese team won the set 25–20 and kept its hopes of completing a comeback alive.

Thailand remained calm under pressure in the fourth set. Captain and setter Pornpun Guedpard continued to distribute the ball effectively, while Pimpichaya Kokram and Sasipaporn Janthawisut delivered crucial points. Thailand pulled away during the second half of the set and closed it 25–20, completing a historic 3–1 victory.

Mayu Ishikawa was the match’s leading scorer despite Japan’s defeat. The Japanese captain finished with 23 points, including 19 attacks, three blocks and one ace.

Pimpichaya Kokram led Thailand with 20 points, recording 19 attacks and one block. Sasipaporn Janthawisut added another 16 points for Thailand with 15 attacks and one block.

Japan finished with 61 attack points, nine blocks and two aces, while Thailand recorded 57 attack points, ten blocks and no aces. However, Thailand played a much cleaner and more controlled match. Japan committed significantly more errors, giving Thailand 28 points, while Thailand gave Japan only 14 points from mistakes. That difference proved to be one of the most important factors in the result.

Thailand’s victory was especially significant because the team had not defeated Japan in several years. It ended Japan’s perfect tournament run and guaranteed Thailand its ninth medal in Asian Championship history.

The result sent defending champions Thailand into the final against host nation China and secured their qualification for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup. Thailand later defeated China 3–2 in an unforgettable final, winning its fourth Asian championship and earning a historic place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Japan recovered from the semifinal defeat by beating Iran 3–0 in the bronze medal match. Japan finished the tournament in third place and also qualified for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup.
