This Step Drill Builds Effortless Power Fast
Great ball striking isn’t about swinging harder… it’s about sequencing your body and the club at the right time.
This step drill is one of the easiest ways to feel that sequence for yourself. The step back and step forward mimics the weight shift that should happen before your arms ever start swinging down, so your body learns to lead and the club learns to follow.
Here is what you actually want:
✅ Feet close together, club a foot in front of the ball
✅ Small step back, then step forward as your lead arm reaches parallel - that’s the pressure shift happening on time
✅ Weight moving well past center by the time the club brushes the ground
Try this drill: step, turn, step, turn - let the step do the sequencing for you, then let the arms and club simply follow the body through impact.
Done right, you’ll feel your pressure moving into your lead side before you even start the downswing, and that effortless, powerful strike stops being an accident.
