For Doug Bertinelli and Pat Hannafin, this isn't just another Knicks championship. It's the ending of a 53-year story.
In 1973, Doug and Pat stood outside City Hall celebrating the Knicks' NBA championship while proudly holding a handmade sign honoring the team. More than five decades later, they reunited with that very same sign after the Knicks defeated the Spurs to capture their first NBA title in 53 years.
Ahead of the first championship parade in Knicks history, Doug and Pat sat down with Dexter Henry to reflect on what it was like celebrating in 1973, why they kept the sign all these years, enduring decades of heartbreak, and finally witnessing another championship alongside a new generation of Knicks fans.
