SURPRISE CUTS Could Result from the MOST IMPORTANT Position Battles in Preseason Week 2

San Francisco 49ers’ trenches face major uncertainty as preseason battles heat up. With the left guard spot wide open, Robert Jones, Connor Colby, and rookie Carver Willis jostle for starting snaps, while fans question Kyle Shanahan’s approach to offensive line priorities. Can a young prospect seize the job, or will the veterans hold on as roster cuts loom?

Brian Peacock and Eric Crocker break down the fierce competition at both left guard and defensive tackle, highlighting surprising performances from undrafted rookies like James Thompson Jr. and Bryson Eason, and raising doubts about Alfred Collins’ future. Key topics include roster crunch scenarios, positional versatility, and whether San Francisco’s Super Bowl window is threatened by lingering depth concerns up front.

San Francisco 49ers fans are treated to daily news and analysis with Locked On 49ers, hosted by football analyst Brian Peacock and former NFL/AFL cornerback Eric Crocker.
