Why the Royals’ New Stadium Might Fail the (Batter’s) Eye, Ear Test

The Royals unveiled their new downtown ballpark renderings, and the first thing people noticed was a fountain in the batter’s eye. That is roughly where the skepticism started. Jacob Milham and Jeremy Greco go through the covered roof, the limestone look, and the Crown Vision concept, then get to the question that matters more than any rendering: will the surrounding district, with its housing and year-round spaces, actually serve Kansas City residents, or just sound good in a press conference?

October keeps the chaos going. The Guardians, Rays, Brewers, and Dodgers series are three games deep, Jeremy has a theory about who thrives when the stakes are real, and the Dodgers’ stars have looked suspiciously mortal. Jacob is there to remind everyone how fast momentum flips.

There is also an Arizona Fall League experiment that could bring doubles and triples back to the game, a rant about the gambling ads, political spots, and horror movie trailers that interrupt playoff baseball, and the first chapter of Jeremy’s offseason “Playing Picollo” series, where the Royals’ winter plan starts to take shape.

Smart, skeptical, and a little funny, with some very honest opinions about stadium design and bad commercials. Press play, then tell us whether you would trade the fountain for a better batter’s eye.
