On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing USC's 31-23 victory over Penn State in Happy Valley. With a record crowd of 114,000 on hand in Beaver Stadium for the annual White Out game, the Trojans came in as a slight underdog to the Nittany Lions but showed they were the better team, handling the noise and playing with composure despite the tough environment.
While Coach Hyde is happy that the Men of Troy were able to secure the win, he isn't all-in on this season being turned around just yet. He wanted to see USC treat this as a business trip and even though the crowd was craze, Penn State is still a struggling team that he feels should have been blown out by Lincoln Riley and company. He also gives props to a couple of the offensive players in the game that really made a different, wide receiver Trent Mosley who came back from injury and true freshman left tackle Vlad Dyakonov who made his first career start with Elijah Paige out with an injury.
Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting.
