We might be watching the Phillies’ best two pitching performances in a season in franchise history.
Christopher Sanchez tossed eight scoreless innings on Friday. He has a 37 ⅔-inning scoreless streak. Zack Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings on Saturday. Sanchez has a 1.62 ERA. Wheeler has a 1.67 ERA. If they keep this up, they could be the best 1-2 punch by any rotation in Phillies history. Better than Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee in 2011. Better than Jim Bunning and Chris Short in the mid-60s. Better than Steve Carlton and John Denny in 1983.
Of course, you need more than pitching to win. We also discuss the team’s offensive struggles during a 2-4 homestand.
