134. How Football Shaped Mostar
We're joined by Ekrem Huskic to discuss the role of football in Mostar, a city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina which has an incredibly rich history but an ultimately tragic story.
Football first came to Mostar in the late 1800s and almost immediately became dominated by two clubs - Zrinjski Mostar and Velež Mostar.
During the Yugoslav and Bosnian Wars, football clubs and supporters played a unique role in the conflicts and genocides which took place. This was no different in Mostar, where both clubs are now representative of the ethnic and religious divisions which scarred Bosnia and Herzegovina.
