Day 2 at the 2026 Roland Garros delivered drama, emotion and unforgettable farewells as Paris said goodbye to two tennis icons — Gael Monfils and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka. There was no shortage of chaos on court either, as Casper Ruud survived one of the wildest matches of the tournament so far against Roman Safiullin, battling heatstroke, a fifth-set collapse and a surprising medical timeout from the Russian that completely shifted the momentum. Joel still can’t believe what unfolded. On the women’s side, Elina Svitolina escaped a huge first-round scare against Anna Bondar, Katie Boulter battled through to Round 2, while Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina eased confidently into the next round.
