Can the New York Islanders Really Survive With This DISMAL Power Play?

The New York Islanders playoff hopes hit a snag as their struggling power play proves costly against the Carolina Hurricanes. Can Victor Eklund and Brayden Schenn’s offensive spark offset persistent special teams woes, or is another long season looming on Long Island?

The conversation focused on the Islanders’ 5-3 loss, spotlighting Semyon Varlamov’s shaky start, Adam Pelech’s controversial penalty, and J.G. Pageau’s rare defensive lapse on the game-winning goal. A key theme that emerged was New York’s predictability on the man advantage, with calls for more creativity and finishing. The discussion explored the upcoming matchup with the New Jersey Devils—who themselves struggle on the penalty kill—as a potential turning point for the Islanders’ power play. Plus, Islanders history takes center stage with a tribute to Ernie Hicke and a look ahead to critical Metro Division battles.
