Yankees Go All-In on a Wild Card Gamble

The Yankees are taking an aggressive approach into the Wild Card round, carrying only 10 pitchers and loading Aaron Boone’s bench with offensive options. Evan Roberts loves the strategy, arguing that Boone can treat his starting lineup as temporary and attack every matchup with weapons like Giancarlo Stanton, Jazz Chisholm, Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon.

The biggest decisions may come early. Evan explains why he would start Volpe over Chisholm against the lefty, while the deep bench gives Boone freedom to make moves by the fourth or fifth inning. Stanton’s return also sparks debate over whether a hitter who has been out for months can still be trusted in the biggest spot.
