Miami Tops CFP Rankings & Man United Stuns Roma

Yesterday in Sports recaps a dramatic Tuesday across college football, the UEFA Champions League, NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB, beginning with the release of the first College Football Playoff rankings and a controversial decision that could reshape the national championship race.

Chris Horwedel breaks down Miami claiming the No. 1 spot in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, ahead of Georgia, Utah and Indiana. The rankings raise questions about how the selection committee evaluates head-to-head results, with Ohio State outside the projected 12-team bracket despite a victory over Indiana. With Notre Dame preparing to face Miami and several other ranked matchups approaching, the playoff picture could change dramatically.

In the Champions League, Manchester United overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat Roma 3-2, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice in the closing minutes. Paris Saint-Germain demolish Villarreal 6-0 to remain perfect in the competition, while Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter and Galatasaray also earn important victories. Meanwhile, West Ham dismiss manager Nuno Espírito Santo following another difficult stretch in the Championship.

The NFL brings significant roster decisions as the New York Giants reportedly extend Greg Newsome and Indianapolis secures Adetomiwa Adebawore, while injuries continue to reshape Arizona and Baltimore. Oklahoma City also reportedly adds Dalen Terry as the Thunder search for depth amid their growing injury crisis.

Baseball faces a potentially enormous labor dispute as MLB owners propose a $258.2 million salary cap and $180.2 million salary floor, setting up a confrontation with the players' association ahead of the current collective bargaining agreement's expiration.

Finally, Nikita Kucherov's trade standoff with the Tampa Bay Lightning deepens, even as the superstar continues producing on the ice. Winnipeg stages an extraordinary four-goal comeback to end its losing streak, while Jason Robertson and Cutter Gauthier deliver memorable NHL hat tricks.
