When Young Tom Morris died on Christmas Day in 1875, he was just 24 years old, and his more famous father, Old Tom, would outlive him by more than 30 years. But in those 24 years, Young Tom had an incredible impact on the sport. He was golf's first celebrity, but more than that, he was the first man to prove that you could make a living—a very good living, in fact—as a touring professional. Today's top pros all descend from a lineage that started with Young Tom, who took the game out of Scotland and began the process of making it global.
