This week's Fight for Iowa Podcast features one of the most accomplished players in Iowa women's basketball history, Amy Herrig Tanny, as she prepares for induction into the Iowa Letterwinners Hall of Fame during FryFest weekend.
A standout at Dubuque Senior High School, Herrig Tanny was recruited to Iowa by Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer before continuing her Hawkeye career under Angie Lee and Lisa Bluder. She quickly established herself as one of the Big Ten's premier post players, earning Associated Press All-America honors, All-Big Ten recognition, and Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds in her debut season.
Herrig Tanny finished her Iowa career with 1,319 points and 789 rebounds while starting every game she played as a Hawkeye. She also authored one of the most remarkable individual performances in program history with a 42-point, 25-rebound game. But as Gary Dolphin and Amy discuss in this episode, her impact extended far beyond the box score. Renowned for her exceptional court awareness and passing ability from the post, Herrig Tanny helped redefine the position through her unselfish play and basketball IQ.
Join Gary Dolphin as Amy Herrig Tanny reflects on her Hawkeye career, the coaches and teammates who shaped her journey, and what it means to be recognized with induction into the Iowa Letterwinners Hall of Fame.
