Mailbag: What CHANGED With Jayson Tatum? Why Does He Face So Much CRITICISM?

Jayson Tatum faces relentless media scrutiny despite his standout performances, raising the question: why do star players like Tatum become lightning rods for criticism in today’s NBA landscape? John Karalis of Celtics On SI unpacks the rise of stan culture, the power of social media, and how “hot take” media personalities like Stephen A. Smith fuel the discourse around Boston Celtics stars. The conversation explores Tatum’s evolving offensive game, including improved rim reads, strategic screens, and off-ball movement orchestrated by Joe Mazzulla, while also tackling whether Tatum could realistically chase triple-doubles this season.

The discussion pivots to the Celtics’ shifting roster, from Jaylen Brown’s firestarter impact to the prospects of fake Paul George trades and the future championship window. Listener questions fuel insights into Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and the ongoing adjustment periods for key big men like Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta. Are the Celtics building the right team around Tatum before their window closes?
