Cricket’s greatest all-rounder, Sir Garry Sobers, is remembered in this special tribute episode following his death on 17 July 2026.
Roland Butcher, the show’s cricket expert and a friend of Sir Garry, reflects on the life of the great Barbadian, whose brilliance lit up the game from his
first-class debut in 1953. Roland recalls the first time he saw Sir Garry play,
what it was like to play against him, and shares his memories of one of
cricket’s finest players and one of its most admired figures.
Former Surrey CCC and England off-spinner Pat Pocock and Cambridgeshire CCC’s Derek Wing both recall the challenge of bowling to Sir Garry, while author David Tossell highlights some of Sir Garry’s greatest achievements. David is the author of the recently published Maestro: A Portrait of Garry Sobers.
The Paddock and The Pavilion is proud to honour Sir Garry Sobers – simply the best, on and off the cricket field.
