Is Brock Bowers a tight end or a wide receiver? Max Toscano of Remember the Tight Ends charted every route, and his numbers could change the Brock Bowers contract conversation for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Max joins Scott Gulbransen to walk through it. Through six games, 81.6% of Bowers’ routes came from true wide receiver alignments. He scored 9.74 on Max’s wide receiver test, where 5.5 is a pass, and Bills cornerback Christian Benford shadowed him like a No. 1 receiver. They go through the Jimmy Graham grievance, why the league beat Graham and Mike Gesicki, and what Bowers would have to prove: more than half his snaps lined up outside four yards of the tackle. Max puts a fair number in the low 30s today and 35 to 38 million a year from now. They also get into the Raiders’ missing X receiver, why Fernando Mendoza needs one for back-shoulder throws, Michael Mayer at the Y, and how much of this is Bowers versus Klint Kubiak and Kirk Cousins.
Before Max, Scott covers Ashton Jeanty’s two carries against the Jets, Mike Washington Jr.’s workload, and whether Kubiak benched Jeanty (he says no). After Max, the Raider Nation calls: Terrick on the running back split, California Mike on Rob Leonard’s defense, and Raider Eddie on John Spytek and patience. Scott closes with his prediction for Raiders vs 49ers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.
