Max Fried Crumbles With Yankees’ Season on Line

Aaron Boone gets an endorsement from Aaron Judge, but Evan Roberts, Tiki Barber and Shaun Morash still see a manager who looks overmatched when the Yankees face baseball’s best teams in October. Judge credits Boone for navigating a season filled with injuries, while the debate continues over whether simply reaching the postseason is enough to justify keeping him.

Max Fried also comes under the microscope after an elimination-game start that was better than his final line but still ended with four runs allowed and a loss. The conversation turns to the Yankees’ bullpen, the growing desperation of the fan base and a promising young core featuring Ben Rice, George Lombard Jr. and Spencer Jones that could finally give New York something different to build around.
