Dru Smith INJURED: How the Heat Replace Him at Point Guard

Miami Heat guard Dru Smith will miss a couple of weeks with a calf strain suffered during training camp, but Erik Spoelstra is calling the injury a “minor” issue. So what does it mean for Miami’s rotation? Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to Smith’s latest setback and explain why his injury history makes the news particularly frustrating — even if the Heat aren’t overly concerned.

Then, who benefits from Smith’s absence? Ryan Conwell and Tre Donaldson could get more opportunities, but Pelle Larsson might be the biggest winner. After Larsson revealed Miami could use him at point guard in bigger lineups, could he become Spoelstra’s full-time backup behind Davion Mitchell? Plus, Dennis Smith Jr. could provide preseason reinforcements, Gabe Vincent remains available and the Heat don’t appear to be rushing to use their 15th roster spot.
