Season 4, Episode 14: Paul Goldschmidt

When Paul Goldschmidt decided to return for a second year with the Yankees, the star first baseman — a likely Hall of Famer — recognized that he was likely signing on for a veteran platoon role. And while that can be difficult for some players of Goldschmidt’s stature, baseball has a way of messing with plans. Goldschmidt has been an essential piece of the team’s run this year, while also serving as a mentor to a budding stud in Ben Rice, and as the veteran explains to Yankees Magazine deputy editor Jon Schwartz, he’s just following the lead of the players who mentored him as he emerged. Goldschmidt and Schwartz discuss the baseball life cycle, the joy that comes with winning, and what it means to have your family around during a big-league journey.

And in our second segment, YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits joins to discuss some particularly interesting news about one player currently on the Yankees injured list and she and Jon look ahead to a September sprint to the postseason. Finally, senior museum curator Brian Richards opens a fascinating chapter of History Books about pitcher Spec Shea.

Don’t forget, the New York Yankees Official Podcast is also available in video form on the Gotham Sports App. Check us out! And if you have questions you’d like Meredith to get answers to, send them to podcast@yankees.com.
