Coach Harvey Hyde not happy with the Trojans performance against Rutgers

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing USC's clunker of a win over Rutgers. The Trojans held on for their first road win and conference win of the season against what was likely the worst team in the Power Four conferences, needing a 99-yard pick six to seal the deal.

Coach Hyde opens the show with a long rant, talking about how this Trojan football team has lost its identity. He wants to see head coach Lincoln Riley be a true head coach and not just an offensive coordinator and he wants to see the physical toughness that was always associated with USC football back for this program. The support is there, Riley has been given everything he could possibly want or need to build a winning football program and through four games this Trojan squad doesn't look like it is a championship caliber team.

Defensively, Coach Hyde isn't happy with the pressure the front seven of this USC defense is generating. At times things are getting too fancy with defensive ends and nose tackles dropping back in coverage. Coach Hyde feels that this side of the ball isn't good at anything because it is trying to be good at everything. They need to be good at what they do and not try and do too much, because you end up not being good at any of it.
