Welcome to Wednesday's All-Access AM with Billy Embody! Join us as we break down the ACC's focus on congress with the Protect College Sports Act moving toward a potential vote. Plus, a look around the ACC at all the quarterback battles raging on.
The Protect College Sports Act isn’t dead — far from it — but it remains in a murky place as senators sift through a traffic jam of items in their last full week before a five-week recess, Ross Dellenger noted Thursday morning for On3. If the act isn’t voted on before the Senate breaks for recess on Friday — there’s buzz that lawmakers may stay til Saturday — then time has a chance to kill another deal.
A vote on the Protect College Sports Act this week seemed mostly doable after the SEC and Big Ten swung their support behind the bill last week. After all, many believe the votes are there not only for the necessary 60 but for as many as 70 and beyond (some disagree).
One Florida State administrator had a colorful metaphor for the rules on changing conferences in the current version of the Protect College Sports Act.
On Tuesday in a meeting of top officials from around the state, Florida State University board chair Peter Collins compared the rules on moving conferences to forcing someone trying to move within the United States to go to Cuba first.
It's just a wild time in college athletics, but that's why we have quarterback competitions to debate and break down across the ACC!
