Buffalo's new Highmark Stadium is almost here — and on this episode of SHOUT!, Matt Parrino is joined by Scott Radecic, co-founder of Populous and the architect behind the building, to go inside the design of the Bills' new home.
Radecic — a former NFL linebacker who played three seasons in Buffalo — breaks down how his team used wind analysis and fluid dynamic modeling to cut wind speeds on the field by more than half compared to the old stadium, why a fully enclosed design actually would have made things worse, and how a 750,000-watt speaker system with more (and bigger) subwoofers than any stadium in the country is going to change the gameday experience.
He also gets into the heated turf system built to keep the field playable deep into a Buffalo winter, the design details meant to keep fans connected to the field no matter where they are in the building, and what he's most excited for fans to experience when the doors open this season.
In this episode:
- How Populous engineered the stadium's shape to reduce wind on the field
- Inside the 750,000-watt sound system and what "audio perfection" really means- The heated, sub-air turf system built for Buffalo winters
- Why every concourse in the new building stays connected to the field
- Scott Radecic's path from NFL linebacker to stadium architect
- What to expect walking into Highmark Stadium for the first time
