Join Martin, Andrew and Kelvin as they dig into a surprisingly rich history of Roker Park’s scoreboards, from the big manual board tucked in the Clockstand corner to the 'flashy' electronic display installed in 1988 – via what we believe to be the original scoreboard in the Fulwell End.
We trace changes triggered by 1960s redevelopment and the 1966 World Cup – roofs, TV gantries and new admin blocks - while dating photos and spotting quirks like the programme-letter system (A, B, C) tied to the manual board.
Along the way there are plenty of memories and laughs: lads in lab coats operating the board, half-time antics, Golden Goal tickets, ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! when we were on the defence, and the way a failing LED screen came to symbolise a club in decline.
All this and more!
