Title: What Does It Really Take to Be a Coaching Family?

Subtitle: Coach Collins sits down with his wife for an honest conversation about the season behind the season

Show Notes

Every coach has a support system at home that never gets a microphone. This episode changes that. Coach Collins is joined by his wife for a candid conversation about what the coaching life actually looks like from the other side of the gym, the parts nobody puts on a highlight reel.

What we cover:

The honest version of a season

What November through March really feels like at home. The missed dinners, the late bus rides, the games watched from the stands with a kid on your lap.

Handling the losses together

What it is like to live with someone after a tough loss, and what actually helps. Spoiler, it is usually not basketball talk.

The stuff parents and fans say

How a coaching spouse hears the criticism differently, and how you protect your family from the noise without hiding from the community.

Kids in the gym

Raising children inside a program. The upside of a childhood spent around a team, and the tradeoffs that come with it.

Setting boundaries that stick

The rules that keep a coaching marriage healthy. When the phone goes down, when film stops, and what one protected day a week can do for a household.

The offseason problem

Everybody thinks coaches get a break. Camps, open gyms, recruiting, and clinics say otherwise. How to actually take time off and mean it.

What she wishes coaches knew

Straight talk for every coach listening about what your family needs from you that you may be missing.

Why it is worth it

The relationships, the kids who come back years later, the shared purpose. The reasons a coaching family keeps signing up for another year.

Coach takeaway: Your program will replace you eventually. Your family will not. Coach hard, but go home on time more often than you think you can.
