West Brom 1–1 Southampton! Saints Miss Their Top-Two Chance | TSP 401

Southampton’s 1–1 draw at West Brom leaves Saints reflecting on a missed opportunity to move into the Championship’s top two. But was it a point gained or two points dropped?

Martin Starke, Steve Grant and Glen de la Cour are joined by the Press Association’s Simon Peach to discuss a game of two very different halves at The Hawthorns. With Saints failing to register a shot before the break, we examine Tonda Eckert’s tactical approach, his decision against half-time substitutions and the response that brought Sam Edozie’s equaliser.

There’s frustration over missed chances for Lewis Dobbin and Finn Azaz, a discussion about Divin Mubama and Saints’ options up front, and concern about the opportunities opponents are being allowed to create. We also debate James Bree’s use of the dark arts.

Oli Hargreaves from the Butter Pie Podcast then joins us to preview Saturday’s trip to Preston. With North End struggling, we discuss team selection, the danger of complacency and how Saints can finish this run of fixtures with a win before the international break. Plus, we reflect on Jay Rodriguez’s Saints career following his retirement announcement.
