JJ Spaun on Winning the US Open at Oakmont, the Movie That Inspired Him + Shining Harris English's Shoes

JJ Spaun grew up in LA wanting to be Tony Hawk, skateboarding to the golf course after school to avoid being seen in a tucked-in shirt. He walked on at San Diego State, worked his way to a full ride, then had to walk on all over again at every level of professional golf until he found himself at Oakmont with nothing to lose. He breaks down the US Open week that changed everything — including a weather delay on Sunday that mirrored a movie he watched on a red-eye flight to London months earlier. Plus: the time Harris English walked into the Torrey Pines locker room and handed JJ his muddy shoes.
