The Royals Trade Game: Jeremy Plays GM, Jacob Plays Hardball

Jeremy Greco wants to trade for Reid Detmers. Jacob Milham is going to make him pay for it. Playing opposing GMs, the two run a full trade simulation to find out what it would really take to push the Kansas City Royals over the top, and how much of the farm system Kansas City can afford to give up.

Jeremy brings the proposals for Detmers, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Nick Lodolo, Ryan Feltner, and Dylan Crews. Jacob pushes back on every one of them. Along the way they argue over who is untouchable and who is in play, with Sean Gamble, David Shields, Blake Mitchell, and Kendry Chourio all part of the debate. The backdrop is a Brewers and Rays team-building lesson: two contenders that got where they are by trading for talent instead of waiting on the farm to deliver.

There is also a look at the Royals’ Gold Glove finalists, a skeptical tour of defensive metrics like SDI, and what Bobby Witt Jr. may be about to win on the awards circuit.

If you have ever shouted at your phone about a trade that never happened, this one is for you. Press play, then tell us who you would have moved.
