It’s been 18 years since I first ran UTMB. I was 20 years old back then, didn’t really know what to expect, and somehow won the race. I came back in 2009 and 2011 and won both times. In 2017, I finished 2nd to François d’Haene and 2018, I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting and had to drop mid-race at Refuge Bertone. In 2022, I ran the race for the sixth time, 14 years after my first win, and had my best day ever around Mont Blanc. I was in a different place in my career, approaching it differently, and it felt like all those years of experience finally came together. In 2026, I’ll be back again for a seventhp time. UTMB is one of the few ultras in the world where the depth of the field pushes you to a different level. If I want to see where I stand in long-distance racing, this is where everybody shows up. I know some people might ask why I’m racing UTMB, as we haven’t always agreed on everything. Since then, I’ve spent long hours talking with Michel and the team. We’re aligned on what matters most and want to work together towards a better sport. Most of all, I love the mountains, the community, the challenge of that course. The loop around Mont Blanc is brutal and beautiful, and every time I run it, I learn something I didn’t know before. So I’m coming back 18 years later, and I still feel like there’s more to learn, more to give, more to discover about what my body can do at this distance. See you in August in Chamonix! @UTMBMontBlanc @UTMBWorldSeries

72 summits in 31 days: Kilian Jornet explains States of Elevation
Kilian sits down for a 20‑minute conversation about States of Elevation, the project to link all 72 fourteeners in the US lower 48 by foot and bike in just 31 days. He breaks down how the line was drawn, why Norman’s 13 became a turning point, how weather and risk shaped every decision, what he ate and how he slept, and what Rainier in October felt like. This is the story behind the numbers: the quiet miles, the hard calls, the people who showed up, and the reason he keeps returning to wild places. Chapters: 00:00 Mapping the dream 00:29 No expectations, only distance 01:04 Rough start and adaptation 02:57 Low mornings, keep moving 03:52 Diversity of the West 04:53 Drawing the line (routes + ridges) 06:37 Adapt to weather, don’t wait 07:49 Learning the bike 08:58 Empty miles = beauty 09:59 Rainier doubts 10:46 A day in the life (mountain vs. bike) 11:59 What worked (sleep, gear, systems) 16:48 Carrying what mattered 17:48 Access, wild places, and why it matters 19:49 A hope for preservation and access

States of Elevation: Colorado Unfiltered
One state, 16 days, 56 summits: a journey stitched together by legendary routes, iconic peaks, and a vibrant local community showing up all along the way. From that first push on the LA Freeway to the final scramble out of Chicago Basin, the opening two weeks of the States of Elevation project became a celebration of Colorado’s wildest terrain and most storied lines. Kilian threaded together classic traverses such as LA Freeway, the Elks, Nolan’s, the Crestone Group, and stood atop summits like Elbert, Massive, Pikes Peak, and the Maroon Bells, relying on pure determination to link them all by bike after long, demanding days in the mountains. Along the way, old friends and new partners joined Kilian, sharing their knowledge and passion for the mountains. This is the story behind the numbers: the weather, the decisions, the quiet miles between famous routes. The first two weeks of a project that set out to touch every 14,000‑foot summit in the lower 48, and didn’t stop until the line was complete.
