How Branded Content Affects Engagement
Engagement on college athlete’s posts is either extremely high or extremely low. Here is why👇 When a college athlete posts on social media, their first priority should be to connect with their audience. In order to get to the branded post level, there needs to be a sign of life. Anything. Any video, photo, etc. If a student-athlete doesn’t post often, there will likely still be a brand out there who would like to partner with them. Often times athletes get small sponsorships with brands that don’t align with their values. And these posts begin to take up the whole grid, getting less engagement every time. College athletes… you need to start posting organic, non-sponsored content. That will lead to a bigger bag, a company that aligns with your values, and a happier audience. If you want to know how? Being relatable is the KEY to social media as a college athlete
College athletes: What is the one thing you can do to guarantee success on social media? Being relatable. And, it’s not very hard. Here is a great example of a college athlete taking viewers behind the scenes. 👇 Paige Anastasi, a gymnast for UCLA, regularly documents her athletic career / achievements. Competition vlogs, team travel vlogs, what I eat in a day, etc. But, every now and then she takes viewers even MORE behind the scenes. Meet my friends, sports games, time off from the gym. Now, that might not get as many views as the sports vlogs. But, it will be viewed by the RIGHT people. The true fans of her vlogs will appreciate her relatability. They will look to her friends as characters in the vlog, and they (probably young gymnasts) will find her downtime very relatable. They will be eager to find out how she spends her free time. By opening up and stepping out of her comfort zone, Paige is creating a relationship with her audience.
