Blackburn Rovers have their first Championship win of the season — but with the transfer deadline looming, Tony Mowbray’s squad is already looking desperately short.
Rovers came from behind to beat Middlesbrough at Ewood Park, building on the hugely encouraging opening-night performance at Wolves and giving Mowbray his first league victory of the new campaign.
But just days later, Rovers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Sheffield United — and an injury to Yuki Ohashi has highlighted a major problem.
Blackburn are now down to just ONE fit senior striker, with the transfer window about to close.
With several fringe players also being linked with moves away from Ewood Park, can Rovers bring in the reinforcements needed? And after a summer in which the squad already looked thin, how many additions does Mowbray realistically need before the deadline?
Mike Beaty and Mark Hitchen discuss where Blackburn need strengthening, whether the club can get the necessary business done in time, and why the next few days could have a huge bearing on Rovers’ season.
There were positives in the cup defeat too, with Dapo Afolayan impressing and scoring a superb goal. Could he be about to give Mowbray another genuine attacking option?
We also revisit a rather controversial discussion from social media…
Our post asking if Rudy Gestede has got more right than he’s got wrong sparked a HUGE reaction among Rovers supporters. It wasn't necessarily our opinion — but after the response it received, we had to talk about it!
And finally, attention turns back to the Championship as QPR visit Ewood Park this weekend.
Can Blackburn build on that victory over Middlesbrough and make it back-to-back league wins?
