The Dallas Stars have played seven games (a mere eight percent) of their 84-game schedule in 2026-27. They won’t even complete their third full week of action until after Saturday’s game in Chicago. It would be very premature to make bold, sweeping generalizations about the Stars as a team and their prospects for this season based on such a small sample size. So instead, let’s do it for the entire NHL. Today’s exercise is flawed, and we know it. But here’s the premise, let’s go through all the biggest surprises (the good and the bad) after the first 16 days of the NHL calendar. Then, let’s double that sample size and circle back to these takes at the end of October. We will see what still holds up and what falls flat after 14 games. Also, on today’s show, how are the Stars holding up to Glen Gulutzan’s push last year of adding “one-degree” more physicality into their game? And, of course, we will discuss all the latest NHL News & Notes.
