Hyrox Las Vegas Race Report (Mixed Doubles)
Chipper and Kristen just finished their first Hyrox in Las Vegas and came back to break down how it went.
For anyone who doesn't know: Hyrox is eight fitness stations (ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carries, lunges, wall balls) with a 1km run between each one. You can race solo or with a partner. They did mixed doubles, which means splitting the work however you want but staying within arm's length the whole time.
They signed up about eight weeks out after Kristen's coworker (who races in the Women's Pro division) wouldn't stop talking about it. Training involved weekend simulations at a Hyrox gym in Petaluma while their kids did gymnastics next door. The race was at Mandalay Bay—loud music, DJ, absurd number of six-packs, but surprisingly inclusive and positive vibes.
Their wave went off at 8:30 PM, which meant an entire day of trying not to eat too much or move too much. They failed at the eating part (rice, beans, quesadilla, guac—too much of all of it). Kristen ran every single kilometer without walking, which Chipper is legitimately proud of. The sled push and pull were brutal on fresh carpet. They messed up the sled pull and did an extra length. Wall balls at the end were hard but manageable—Chipper did two sets of 30, Kristen did two sets of 10.
Finished in 1:34:29, crushed their goal time, got a patch instead of a medal, skipped the planned late-night burger, and went straight to bed because they had a 6 AM flight. Both agree they'd do it again and recommend it for swimrunners or anyone looking for a fun partner challenge.
