Six miles east of Atlanta, on Christmas Eve 2025, a grandmother’s kitchen table would host a meeting that would change the course of a storied program and cement a college football legacy. After a 4-8 season, the Florida Gators made a coaching change, hiring Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall, who had led the Green Wave to the College Football Playoff. The day before Tulane lost in the first round to Ole Miss, Sumrall’s father George died at the age of 77. Then on December 24, the day after he buried his Dad, through the pain of the loss, Sumrall and his family decided to board a plane to meet with Gators star running back, Jadan Baugh, in hopes of reminding him that Gainesville was home.
