Postmatch Press Conference | Pat Noonan | 9/4/26

FC Cincinnati Head Coach Pat Noonan previews the club’s upcoming Major League Soccer matchup against D.C. United, reflecting on a disappointing performance in Nashville while outlining the team’s approach moving forward.

Noonan discusses FC Cincinnati’s two recent transfer-window additions, David and Julián Malatini, highlighting the experience, versatility, competitiveness, and defensive qualities they bring to the squad. He explains how both players fit into the group, the challenges created by visa timelines, and what their eventual integration could mean for the team’s defensive structure and player positioning.

The conversation also centers on Cincinnati’s response to the Nashville loss, with Noonan emphasizing the need for improved defensive execution, stronger player connections, greater confidence, and simpler principles rather than a major tactical overhaul. He shares updates on player availability, including the status of Sami Gidi and Kristian, while confirming that Evander is available after a hard foul in the previous match.

Looking ahead to D.C. United, Noonan details the challenges posed by an opponent he describes as intense, fast, dangerous in transition, and well organized defensively. He also addresses the potential impact of Tai Baribo’s availability and what his movement, pressing, and goal-scoring ability could add to D.C. United’s attack.
