Team USA ended night 1 of Pan Pacs with a bang, shattering the world record in the 400 Mixed Medley Relay with a 3:36.70. The team of Will Modglin, Van Mathias, Gretchen Walsh, and Kate Douglass was dominant, winning by over 2.5 seconds. While Walsh and Douglass have been a part of numerous world records, both individually and on relays, Modglin and Mathias were first-timers. Mathias, who has had a career resurgence after seemingly retiring, noted that even though he's one of the oldest members of Team USA, he still feels like the rookie.
