Reece James is facing another lengthy spell out, and for Chelsea the bigger question is no longer simply when their captain will return.
I’ve already said Chelsea can’t keep building the team around Reece James’ availability. But that doesn’t mean giving up on one of the most talented players at the club.
So what should Chelsea actually do now?
In this video I look at:
• Why Reece James can still be hugely important to Chelsea
• Why Chelsea can’t make him the plan anymore
• Whether his role in the squad needs to change
• Whether Chelsea need a genuine first-choice alternative
• What his captaincy means going forward
• Whether Chelsea should build without him and benefit from him when he is available
For me, the key point is simple:
Reece James doesn’t need to stop being important to Chelsea.
Chelsea just need to stop needing Reece James.
