Parker Valby ran 14:39.88 to win the USATF LA Grand Prix 5000m for a 10-second personal best from her 14:49 opener three weeks ago. She went through 2000m at 14:40 pace, dropped a sub-70 third lap around 2800m, and soloed the last 2.2k completely alone after dropping Alicia Monson and Karissa Schweizer early. Same execution as her opener: go to the front, set tempo, hold – except she held harder.
Valby now sits ninth all-time among American 5000m runners and 21st in the world at this point in the season.
In this video, we break down what the 14:39 actually tells us about her 2026 ceiling, where she fits in the US distance picture heading toward USAs, and the question that keeps coming up: can she develop the closing speed that competing at the international level demands?
