“I felt like I was born to run.”
From his first cross country race in regional Victoria to representing Australia on the international stage, running has been a constant throughout Steve Moneghetti’s life.
Steve reflects on the marathon that changed the trajectory of his career, the internal battle required to keep pushing when the body wants to stop, and the journey that followed his retirement from elite competition.
Today, Steve remains deeply connected to athletics through leadership, sports administration and the running community, while continuing to run whenever he can.
‘Where Are They Now’, part of the Under the Surface series created by Australian Athletics in partnership with Rio Tinto, revisits the people and stories that have shaped Australian athletics and where life has taken them since.
