John Mateer’s Mountain To Climb | College GameDay

Oklahoma QB John Mateer had a record-breaking debut for the Sooners, immediately drawing comparisons to other great OU QBs like Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and  Jalen Hurts, while starting to garner Heisman hype.  Just a few weeks later late in the game against Auburn, Mateer injured his hand. Following the win, the news was grim. Mateer would require surgery and fears of the Sooners season being over followed.
