For about 10 years now, I've been settled on 770mm handlebars as my go-to width for most bikes, occasionally erring narrower for XC bikes. They feel like home, and provide a nice balance of leverage and stability for just about any trail out there. In all honesty, I haven't thought about bar width in a very long time, and would have happily remained in that blissful headspace.
But, science demands answers, and I am nothing if not a loyal adherent to the power of curiosity. Based on the ratios laid out Jessie-May, I should be riding a handlebar between 910mm and 1,082mm. Those numbers are much bigger than the number I'm used to, and they inspire fear within me.
