The 2026 One Water Race is in the books, and Team USA France touched the Landsort lighthouse after three and a half days across the Stockholm archipelago. We sit down with Chris Wright, who raced the inaugural edition in 2022 and came back this year for his third start and his first finish.
Chris was the lead swimmer on a four-person team that returned fully intact from last year. He walks us through the decision to say yes again, a training year built around swimming with paddles, and why the real gains came from executing the same plan better, not changing it.
We get into the 30-second debrief with the boat captain at every island, the 8.5K Danziger Gat swim in three to four foot waves, staying within the eight-hour cutoff, and what 70 hours awake does to your ears. Chris also explains the 4 PM start and the new A/B checkpoint decisions, wearing three wetsuits, swimming-induced pulmonary edema, dry robes, and a fueling plan built on ramen and roughly 100 fun size Snickers.
It is race week in the States too. Swimrun Cape Cod and ÖTILLÖ Colorado in Fort Collins both happen this weekend, and ÖTILLÖ Austin in early November is the last race left on the US calendar.
