Cincinnati Reds Dominate Phillies in Explosive 11-4 Victory

On July 8, 2026, at Great American Ball Park, the Cincinnati Reds delivered a powerful offensive showcase, routing the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 11-4. After dropping the series opener the night before, the Reds erupted with a five-home-run barrage that turned the game into a rout, providing much-needed momentum for a team battling in the NL Central standings.

Chase Burns got the start for Cincinnati and worked five solid innings. He allowed three runs on three hits while walking six but striking out two. Despite the high walk total, Burns kept the Phillies from stringing together consistent threats early, giving his offense time to wake up. Philadelphia starter Alan Rangel lasted just 3⅓ innings, surrendering three runs and three hits with five strikeouts in a shaky outing.

The Phillies struck first in the second inning. Gabriel Rincones Jr. doubled, and Justin Crawford followed with a triple to score him. Crawford then came home on a wild pitch from Burns, handing Philly a quick 2-0 lead. But Cincinnati answered emphatically in the third. Elly De La Cruz doubled, and Sal Stewart crushed a two-run homer to right field, knotting the score at 2-2. Stewart’s blast marked another milestone in what has been a breakout rookie campaign for the young third baseman.

The fourth inning became a Reds highlight reel. Noelvi Marte led off with a solo shot to left-center. De La Cruz then launched a two-run homer, scoring Edwin Arroyo ahead of him. Stewart followed immediately with his second homer of the game, and JJ Bleday capped the surge with another long ball. The Reds had hit four homers in the inning alone—three of them back-to-back-to-back after Marte’s leadoff drive—exploding for five runs and seizing a commanding 7-2 advantage. The crowd at Great American Ball Park roared as the balls kept flying out.

Philadelphia chipped away with a sacrifice fly from Bryson Stott in the fifth that scored Bryce Harper, making it 7-3. In the sixth, J.T. Realmuto added a solo homer to left, narrowing the gap to 7-4. Yet the Reds refused to let momentum shift. In the bottom of the sixth, they added four more insurance runs. TJ Friedl scored on a Bleday single, and then Marte delivered a bases-clearing double that plated De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, and Bleday, pushing the final tally to 11-4.De La Cruz finished 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Stewart went 2-for-2 with two homers and three RBIs, continuing his impressive power surge. Bleday and Marte each contributed long balls and key hits in the middle of the order. The Reds totaled 10 hits while the Phillies managed only five. Cincinnati’s bullpen, including Brent Burke and Caleb Ferguson, shut the door over the final innings to preserve the win.

This victory showcased the Reds’ youthful energy and home-run potential. Stars like De La Cruz, Stewart, Marte, and Bleday combined for an unforgettable night of power hitting that overwhelmed a strong Phillies club. For Cincinnati, sitting below .500 but showing flashes of brilliance, nights like this highlight the promise in their lineup. The win improved their spirits heading into the final game of the series and offered fans a thrilling reminder of why baseball in the Queen City remains exciting. The Reds’ bats came alive exactly when needed, turning a potential close contest into a statement victory under the lights.
