Eddie Howe’s nearly five-year spell at Newcastle United has come to an end as the club enters a major period of transition.
Howe leaves as arguably the most successful Newcastle manager of the Premier League era, having guided the club back into the Champions League and secured their first major trophy in decades.
But, after a summer of expensive signings failed to have the desired impact and with the squad struggling to cope with the demands of competing on multiple fronts, the relationship between Howe and Newcastle appeared to be going stale.
