The Reds are coming off a frustrating 10-7 loss in Friday’s series opener, a back-and-forth game that featured five lead changes and 17 combined runs. He has thrown 148.1 innings this season, but his recent results have been a concern. Opposing hitters have posted a .979 OPS against Abbott over the last 28 days, making this a challenging matchup against a deep Milwaukee lineup.

Milwaukee counters with right-hander Dustin May. The veteran is 6-9 with a 4.69 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. May has also struggled recently, giving the Reds an opportunity to get their offense going early. He has allowed a .909 OPS over his last 28 days, and Cincinnati will need to take advantage rather than allowing Milwaukee to turn the game over to a strong bullpen with a lead.

Offensively, Cincinnati continues to be led by rookie Sal Stewart, who has emerged as one of the National League’s top young hitters. Stewart enters Saturday with 31 home runs and 106 RBI, leading the Reds in both categories. Elly De La Cruz remains another major threat, carrying a .276 batting average into the matchup.

For Cincinnati, Saturday represents another opportunity to finally change the narrative against Milwaukee. The Brewers have controlled the matchup throughout 2026, and after dropping Friday’s opener, the Reds need a strong outing from Abbott and an aggressive night from the offense to even the series before Sunday’s finale.
