Oklahoma State Football 2026 Preview: Is This the Big 12’s Biggest Breakout Team?

Oklahoma State football is starting over after two brutal seasons and the end of the Mike Gundy era, but the Cowboys may have found exactly the right coach for the rebuild. Eric Morris arrives from North Texas with quarterback Drew Mestemaker, running back Caleb Hawkins and receiver Wyatt Young, giving Oklahoma State the core of an offense that already knows how to play in his system. Mestemaker in particular has us intrigued, and if the rebuilt offensive line holds up, this could quickly become one of the most entertaining offenses in the Big 12.

The question is how much of that optimism can survive everything else that comes with a Year 1 overhaul. Oklahoma State has an almost entirely new roster, major questions on defense and a schedule with Oregon, Houston, Texas Tech and several dangerous swing games.

Could Oklahoma State really jump from the bottom of the Big 12 to eight or nine wins in a single season? .
