Jacques Martin on the Maple Leafs, Daniel Alfredsson & Battle of Ontario

Two-time Stanley Cup champion and longtime Senators head coach Jacques Martin joins Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill ahead of Round 1 of the Battle of Ontario!

Martin reflects on the history of the Battle of Ontario and what made the rivalry so special over the years. He also breaks down the Leafs’ offseason, giving John Chayka and company plenty of credit for improving Toronto’s depth, particularly on the third and fourth lines, while also discussing the team’s goaltending.

Martin also weighs in on Daniel Alfredsson joining the Leafs, including his connection with Mats Sundin and why the opportunity in Toronto made sense for Alfie.

Plus, Martin shares his thoughts on the blockbuster Kirill Marchenko-Matthew Knies trade, Gavin McKenna’s NHL debut, and why McKenna’s development needs to be closely monitored. He compares McKenna’s situation to Marian Hossa’s NHL debut, when Hossa played seven games before returning to junior.

Finally, Martin discusses the Sergei Bobrovsky-Anthony Stolarz tandem before reflecting on his retirement and what he plans to do next.

Hint: Watch a lot of hockey.
