Yomif Kejelcha ran 56:51 at the Media Maratón Ciudad de Buenos Aires on Sunday to reclaim the half marathon world record — cutting 29 seconds off Jacob Kiplimo's 57:20 from Lisbon in March and 39 seconds off his own previous best. Tadese Worku took second in 59:20 for an Ethiopian 1-2.
The splits are the story. Kejelcha went through 10K in 27:19 — 19 seconds behind Kiplimo's pace from Lisbon. Then something changed. He ran 13:22 for the 10-15K segment. Hit 15K in 40:41, eleven seconds ahead of Kiplimo. Passed 20K in 54:04. Closed the final kilometer in 2:32. The second 10K was 26:45. He wasn't just holding on. He was kicking.
