On what proved an eventful start to manager Enzo Maresca’s Etihad Premier League reign, City looked to be heading for defeat with time running out and the Blues trailing to Marcus Tavernier’s first-half opener.

However, Maresca’s men then summoned up a quite remarkable late turnaround.

First Marc Guéhi headed home an 85th minute leveller.

Then, in the first minute of stoppage time, the roof was lifted off when Joško Gvardiol fired in a dramatic winner.

Even then the drama wasn’t over, with the effort initially being ruled out for offside before a subsequent VAR check saw the goal awarded to get the Maresca era off to a winning start.
