Elly De La Cruz now has six caught stealings this season after an official scoring change from the Reds’ July 11 game against the Cubs.
According to @scoringchanges, De La Cruz has been charged with a pickoff-caught stealing in the third inning instead of just a pickoff.
The analysis from @scoringchanges explains that after being picked off first base, De La Cruz broke toward second. Because the runner on second could have advanced to third, Elly was legally attempting to steal second. Under MLB scoring rules, the play is scored as both a pickoff and a caught stealing.
